Where to Travel in March
After a long dreary winter, people begin wondering where to travel in March to get away from it all. For many, the best vacation spots in March include warm weather, sandy beaches, and sunshine. Then, there is the other group. The group that includes those that want to get away for some great spring skiing. This has always been my preference.
So, where to travel in March? Let us offer a few suggestions that you may not have considered.
Where to Travel in March for Sunshine and Warm Weather
Finding a spot that suits your needs can be a bit iffy. If you are of an age you probably want to avoid the whole “spring break” mayhem for something a bit more serene and romantic.
Often overlooked these days, and shouldn’t be, Palm Springs is a great place to get away for sunshine and warmth. Awww…. lounging by your own beautiful secluded pool!
There’s a reason so many Hollywood elite still keep homes here. It’s a fabulous place to get away to. And there are plenty of active things to do here to if that is what you are looking for.

Where to Travel in March – Gran Canaria, Canary Islands
I am willing to bet that, if you are from the States, you have probably not heard of Gran Canaria. You want out of the way? You want to go to a place that none of your friends have probably heard of, let alone actually visited? Then you need to check this out thoroughly before deciding where to travel in March.
This is the largest city on Gran Canaria. Also, its capitol. Las Palmas is the most interesting, and offers the most diversity, of the cities on the island. You will find two really nice beaches: Playa de las Canteras, probably the nicest of the two, and Playa de las Alcarvaneras.
And, yes, while beaches are nice, where to travel in March, is dictated by more than sandy beaches and blue skies. There must be some culture that goes along with those beaches, and Las Palmas De Gran Canaria has that.
If all you want is beaches, and little else, then you should head to Maspalomas on the south of the island. Arguably the best beach on the island, and a great waterpark.
Aqualand Maspalomas is the Canary Islands’ largest waterpark, with 33 waterslides. You can also find shopping experiences, but otherwise the town is also bit “colorless”.

Constant readers of our blog no that we try to stay in smaller boutique hotels in the middle of town.
Nothing wrong with beach front, but having the character and vibrancy of the town right there just add to the experience.
That is one of the reasons we think Bed and Chic is worth our recommendation and your consideration. This small, 12 room, boutique hotel is located on a lovely lovely little square with great tapas and traditional spanish bars right outside your door.
Each of the rooms is urban cool, bright and airy. And, the rooftop terrace which has a few comfy seats plus chairs and tables for breakfast, is simply delightful.

Where to Travel in March for Snow Fun
There’s another group of people, although to honest many travelers will belong to both, that prefer to take their March vacation where there is plenty of snow and challenging ski runs. I know that I am guilty of this bias.
Many skiers understand that frequently this is the best time to go on a ski trip. fewer crowds, sunnier days, and cheaper rates (sometimes) make this a great time to go.
So, where to go? I have a couple of ideas. Among them my favorite.
Where to Travel in March – Squaw Valley, CA
Squaw has long been my favorite place for spring skiing. It started when I was there helping with the Special Olympics many years ago. Super ski area!
The area is quite extensive with 42 chairlifts and 270+ trails across more than 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. And, the main reason to visit Squaw, sometimes through the better part of May, is the 450-plus inches of snow and near-guaranteed sunshine 300 days of the year, and runs that cater to all levels.
One of the cool things is that Squaw is kind of upside down. By that, I mean there are many easy early intermediate runs at the top of the mountain. That’s not at all common, and is fun for newer skiers not being stuck at the bottom of the mountain.

Resort at Squaw Creek
When people ask you where to travel in March, this is one of those places that you will talk about long after checking out. I don’t know what there is not to love about the Resort at Squaw Creek.
With three heated swimming pools, the award-winning Spa at Squaw Creek, and five restaurants to cater to any culinary craving you sure can’t complain about the facilities. And, with ski in-ski out access to one of the best ski mountains in America, you’ll know why people come back time after time.

PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn is just a few steps away from the lifts at Squaw Valley making it a great place to stay for your ski vacation, but it has more to offer than that. The is one of the finest destination wedding spots around.
Comfortable, and casually elegant, a stay here is pretty tough to beat. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take part all year round not just in the winter.
From swimming to sailing. From hiking to parasailing. You won’t run out of things to do.

Where to Travel in March – Sun Valley, Idaho
Though much smaller in size than Squaw Valley, my other favorite place to get away for a March ski vacation is Sun Valley. As said, it is smaller with some 21 lifts and 75 trails. The area consists of two peaks that offer very short lift lines allowing your to take advantage of the more than 2000 acres of terrain available to ski.

Knob Hill Inn in Ketchum
The Knob Hill in is just shy of two miles from Dollar Mountain Lodge, and a short 5 minute shuttle ride to the base. And, so pleasant and picturesque that it totally complements its surroundings to a “t”.
You will so appreciate the spacious rooms that have been newly renovated. Settle back and relax. There is just nothing negative that I can say about this very comfortable and inviting inn. Romantic, close to the slopes, great attention to detail. What more can you ask for if you need to know where to travel in March ?
