eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel Review: The Perfect Carry-On?
The average traveler is always on the lookout for that perfect piece of luggage. Don’t deny it, you know who you are?
But, what is the perfect piece of luggage? If you are living in the past, your idea of the perfect piece of luggage may still be an old steamer trunk!
If you are in your twenties you well may believe that a backpack is the worlds perfect piece of luggage. Until that day your back tells you enough.
These days many of us traveling the world are looking for something else.
People are looking for:
- ease of use,
- compactness, and
- it should be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
A very tall order, you’ll have to agree.
We think we may have found that perfect piece of luggage in the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel. Whew… Quite a mouthful, isn’t it?
And, speaking of mouthfuls, this thing will swallow up a lot of your stuff. It is truly capacious! (Haven’t you always wanted to use that word?) But, I’m getting a little ahead of myself.
Remember the days when luggage typically could be found with hard sides, or, if you were really lucky, it would have hard sides? And, they came with a single grip!
These days a single grip just isn’t going to cut it, is it? With so many of us traveling now with just a carry-on that needs to be lifted into the overhead bins, you need a piece that has not one grip, not two, but three or four.
The more the merrier, when it comes to lifting that bag over your head.
But, let’s be real. One grip or ten, we don’t want to carry that thing through airports or train stations, or…. anymore than we absolutely have to, do we?
And, like so many bags today, the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel, as the name implies, comes with wheels. Great wheels in fact.
Ease of Use
For me, ease of use when it comes to a roll-aboard includes the following:
- how well it rolls
- plenty of grips to easily lift it in to the overhead compartment
- a handle that extends tall enough (a big one if you are 6′ 8″, like me)
- and, strong, smooth running zippers
One look at those wheels, one spin across the pavement and you can tell these are some durable and well-built wheels. A necessity when trundling along city streets, cobbled lanes, and train stations. And, did I say these guys are quiet. As the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21″ Wheeled Duffel rolls through the airport I would describe them as near whisper quiet.
When it comes time to stow your bag in the overhead, you want grips to fall easily to hand so as to be able to quickly grasp them and lift it. The eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel has really taken that it to consideration with sturdy well placed grips.
Here’s the real biggie for me. How far does that handle extend? It needs to extend far enough so that it doesn’t hit your heels all the time. So, if you are shorter than 6′ 8″ you have it made as it works great for me. And, of course, the handle is sturdy and reliable on the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21″ Wheeled Duffel, too.
One thing you may have noticed in the photos, and commented on to yourself, is that the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21″ Wheeled Duffel has a bright orange interior fabric. Why orange? Because, it is impossible to overlook anything against that blinding backdrop. Orange is good!
I think that we all have had luggage with zippers that simply refuse to budge. You know the experience. You feel as if you are going to rip the zip to shreds, and in some cases you actually do. We have had these for a year now, and used them several times, and the zippers are just as good as they day we got them.
I absolutely hate it when people come on board trying to stuff an obviously over large bag into the overhead. Have you ever been behind someone like that? How did they get passed the check in desk? Having got that out of my system, you will find the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel easily fits in the overhead compartments.
Able Leap Tall Buildings
Ok, maybe not! But, it does its job really really well. Is this the very best roll-aboard you can get? I must admit, I haven’t tried them all. Not even close honestly, but I have used a number. And, if there’s one better, I haven’t been introduced to it yet.
Something to keep in mind, I am 6′ 8″ tall, I wear size 16 shoes, and I was able to pack everything you see in the photo for our upcoming 6 week-ish trip to England and France.
That’s red light weight jacket, two pairs of shoes, two pair long pants, two pair shorts, three long sleeve shirts, and two short sleeve shirts, six changes of underwear and socks, along with toiletries and shaving gear.
And just imagine what you can get in a eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel! After all, the odds are that you are nowhere near as big as I am and your clothes are not going to take up near the space.
I can guess what you are thinking right now, “Is it as great as he says it is?” My wife and I think they are that great, and we highly recommend the eBags TLS Mother Lode Mini 21 inch Wheeled Duffel after having used them.
But, ultimately, only you can make that determination after you have used one for a while.
