Lake Chelan Weekend Getaway Bliss
A long slice of Heaven
Lake Chelan weekend getaway bliss started for us the day after I retired after thirty years of teaching. And, even though you might not be ready to retire, you can find your long slice of heaven here, too.
Many residents of Washington State have heard of Lake Chelan as it is one of the state’s premier vacation locations. Call it Washington’s Riveria if you like.
And, just like the Riviera, this place has typically been all about the sun and playing on the water. But, in the last several years, that has been changing.
So, why what reason would you have to visit Chelan? Let’s take a look, and see if we can help you find your way to your perfect getaway.Find your Lake Chelan Weekend Getaway Bliss! #TBIN Click To Tweet
Where is Lake Chelan
For new comers to the state, and visitors, you’ll find this hot spot snuggled into a deep valley in the eastern foothills of the northern Cascade mountain range. It’s roughly a three to four hour drive from Seattle, or Spokane.
Reasons to Visit
Traditionally, Lake Chelan has been the go to place for Western Washington residents wanting to escape the rain and fine sunshine and warm weather when neither are to be found. Just a lyin’ in the sun, get baked, partying and boating were the things that drew people here by the thousands. And, for many still do.
But, these day, the area offers more. What’s the major draw these days?
Yep, wine. The Lake Chelan area has become well known for its outstanding wineries, and they are now a very big reason that people visit now.
And, what’s not to like here? The weather is warm, the scenery is beautiful, and the wine is delectable!
At last count, there are twenty seven wineries hugging the shores of the lake and tucked away in little hidden away spots a short drive off the lake. You’ll find wineries of all sizes populating the north and south sides of the lake.
Lake Chelan Wineries
First, let me say that this is not going to a top wineries list. We all have our preferences. I’m just sharing the ones that we liked, and you can make your own determination when you visit.
Chelan Estate Winery
755 S Lakeshore Rd, Chelan, WA 98816

11-6 summer season
Just let me say that I am particularly fond of Pinot Noir, and Chelan Estate has the Chelan Estate 2010 Pinot Noir that I think really quite well thought of. The winery is going to bowl you over in an upscale type of setting. It’s simple with a beautiful deck over looking the lake and a staff that are as knowledgible as they are nice.
Tunnel Hill Winery
38 Hwy 97A Chelan, WA 98816

The most descriptive word I can think of to use when telling people about Tunnel Hill Winery is scenic. The setting is impeccably groomed with beautiful waterworks in the backyard. Through in some very good wines and you have a super tasting experience. I like the way they put it: “A chance to settle down. Calm the mind. Quiet those feet. ” Nicely phrased.
One Wines Inc.
526 E Woodin Ave Chelan, WA 98816
One Wines, Inc.com
1pm – 7pm Thu thru Sun
Ok, so One Wines is a little different than the other wineries I just listed. Don’t let that scare you. It’s a good thing.
First off, they’re right in town. Not positive, but I think they have an exclusive on that.
The tasting area is diminutive, cute, and friendly. The patio area is comfortable and is a great place to kick back and enjoy life as you enjoy wine. Very good wine. Seriously good wine.
For being relatively new kids on the block, they have reached some lofty heights and taken home many awards. Like the 2011 One Exception Wine, One Big Red Wine which a Double Gold Medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine Awards, and a Double Gold Medal at the 2015 Savor NW Wine Awards.
Like I said don’t let the fact that they are in town put you off. You’ll be missing out!
Places to Stay in Lake Chelan
Of course, you are going to need some place comfy to stay while you visit the wineries, and we can suggest a few.
Campbell’s Resort in Chelan
I’m not positive about this, but I think that Campbell’s is the original hotel/resort in Lake Chelan. It has a prime location right on the water as you enter the main part of the downtown area. It offers great access to everything that the downtown has to offer, as well as being able to get out to the other areas quickly.
As the old saying goes: Location, Location, Location! But, it’s not all about location, it’s a nice place to stay as well with a pretty good restaurant attached.
More on Campbell's resort.
Of course not everyone wants to stay in town, so here are other Chelan Lodging options.
