Popular Bellingham Breweries People Rave About!
The best Bellingham breweries offer up really great brews.
Recently, while in Bellingham, I gave myself a self-guided Bellingham brewery tour that took in 3 popular Bellingham Breweries people rave about! And, had a good time doing it, I might add.
Jo was off with her lifelong girlfriend, so I was on my own. And, what better way to enjoy an afternoon than by sampling great brews and spending time in a town I hadn’t really visited much since graduating from university in the late 70’s.
Let’s begin our popular Bellingham Breweries people rave about tour with:
Kulshan Brewing Co.
2238 James St, Bellingham, WA 98225 (360) 389-5348
Kulshan located at 2238 James Street is a great place with a nice bar and plenty of space both inside and out, under the bright red umbrellas and young trees on the patio.
The comfortable atmosphere is further enhanced by the great food truck from JT’s Smokin Barbecue. These guys serve up some awesomely delicious Pulled Pork or Chicken BBQ Sandwiches, or Smoked Brats on a Bun, not to mention the other tasty sides. The food trucks are revolving so you may have a different experience.
During my short sojourn to Kulshan Brewing, I tasted their Bull of the Woods Double IPA. Which I found quite delicious and would recommend to all IPA lovers out there.
I really enjoyed my brief stop at Kulshan Brewery, and would happily return on my next visit.
1807 Dean Ave. Bellingham, Washington 98225 (360) 647-6152
Second stop? Wander Brewing.
This is one of those “you can’t tell the book by the cover” experiences. When you first drive up you might be put off by the industrial warehouse ambiance of the neighborhood, and the exterior of Wander.
You might even wonder how it made our list of 3 popular Bellingham Breweries that people rave about. But, give it a chance. It’ll grow on you. You’ll really love all the sparkling stainless steel and fresh wooden tanks.
So, what’ll you have? The WanderAle Belgian Blonde is a good bet. Wander Brewing describes it: “Belgian abbey yeast combines with imported malts and aromatic hops resulting in a flowery, earthy spiciness. Share Wanderale with others. Discover your wander.
Stones Throw Brewery
1009 Larrabee Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225 (360) 362-5058
This was the last, but certainly not least, stop on my impromptu 3 popular Bellingham Breweries people rave about tour around Bellingham. In fact, let me go so far as to say, of the three that were visited, it was my favorite.
I will apologize right now, and say, that I was remiss in my image making duties while visiting Stones Throw Brewery. I hope you can forgive me.
Stones Throw is unique among the three, as it is set in a semi residential area. A “homier” neighborhood feel being the way to best describe it.
Upon your visit, you are likely to find owner/janitor, as his business card says, Jack Pflueger, a good German name if I’ve ever heard one, holding forth behind the bar. Part of the appeal is that this place is small, friendly, and welcoming.
Here is how one recent visitor put it, “This place is my absolute new favorite spot. Top notch beer, a fantastic set-up, and a down to earth spirit. Stones Throw represents everything that Bellingham and the PNW are all about. You will often see the owners either visiting with folks or bar tending. Don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation…they are great folks and they make some kick ass beer.”
You’ll be singing praises too! And, do yourself a favor, when you find yourself in Fairhaven, make sure that you stop in at Stones Throw Brewery.
And, let’s not forget, we are not slighting Kulshan or Wander. You need to stop in at these two great breweries as well.
