But, why give it all away! You want to explore and find things on your own, right?
In complete honesty, there are a plethora of things to see and do in Hood River. And, by that I mean the surrounding area too. If you like outdoor activities Hood River is going to be right up your adventure loving alley.
#1 Windsurfing and Kiteboarding
Prior to the 1980’s, Hood River had little going for it. You might even say it was a ghost town of sorts. Heck, there was a time when it would be hard to list 5 fun things to do in Hood River Oregon.
But, then, the sport of windsurfing came along. And, suddenly Hood River was mecca for windsurfing in the U.S. With near perfect windsurfing conditions, suddenly Hood River was back on the map.
Windsurfing and kiteboarding, though not was popular as it was in the ’80’s, is still a major draw. This is a challenging and fun sport to take a stab at.
#2 Mountain Biking
Post Canyon is what it’s all about. Just a four mile pedal this is a great single-track for ripping it up. Super for freestyle action as it has extensive wooden features for kick-ass hard-core types.
The upper and lower sections offer something different that should appeal to a variety of riders. Make a loop ride by connecting other trails, or simply ride out and back.
#3 Brew Pub Crawl
Anyone familiar with Oregon knows that there is rampant beer craziness here. Brew pubs are everywhere. And, Hood River is no exception. In this little town of about 7,000 there are 5 brew pubs. Yes, you read that correctly, five of them. No wonder this is one of 5 fun things to do in Hood River, Oregon.
Full Sail is a large, employee owned brewery that has been around quite a number of years and can be found in stores across the NW. You can enjoy river views while sampling beers sold only at the pub. Tours are also available.
Big Horse Brew Pub one of the originals in town is a bit of a climb off of State St. Its four stories offer great views of the river and the surrounding area, and serves good pub food.
Double Mountain Brewery is the place to go for live music, brick fired pizza, and beers that are distinctive. Can be found on 4th Street.
Logsdon Barrel House serves up organic farmhouse brews influenced by the farmhouse breweries of Belgium as they were brewed centuries ago. Everyone knows that Belgian beer is the best, so this is a real treat.
pFriem Family Brewers is another that brews authentically awesome Belgian beers. Enjoy these great brews while taking in the expansive views of the Columbia and White Salmon rivers. Throw in a fire pit on the outdoor patio, and you have truly captivating experience. If you are hungry the uniquely Belgian-influenced menu, is deliciously satisfying and matches their artisanal beers perfectly. Found near the cities waterfront park.
#4 Bites and Sips
Is there anyone that doesn’t enjoy discovering dining experiences when visiting a new town? I know, silly question. Of the 5 fun things to do in Hood River Oregon, eating must be our favorite.
6th Ave Bistro and Loft is a friendly eatery that offers a wide choice of beers on tap to go along with a fairly extensive menu. A menu that consists of healthy and sustainable locally grown foods. And, offers simple favorites alongside more creative dishes. Enjoy the ambiance while sitting on the cheery patio.
Brians Pourhouse is one of our favorites. Located in a cute gray house re-purposed as a stylish restaurant. Dining inside in the cozy main room or outside on the friendly patio.
When looking for breakfast, there are several options available. But, the one longest standing tradition is Bette’s Place. I remember standing in line waiting to get a table in the 80’s and 90’s when I was practically lived in Hood River during windsurfing season.
#5 Shop ’til You Drop
These days Hood River offers a pretty wide choice of interesting shops and galleries to spend money in. Gone are the days that every other shop, or so it seemed, was dedicated to the sport of windsurfing, or mountain biking. Now, many of them are little boutiques offering upscale clothing and various local artisans offerings.
