A Roomy Bag That Doesn’t Take-Up a Ton of Space
As someone on the go, I bet you are constantly looking for the best messenger camera bag for travelers. I think that I have found the one that will fill that bill for you, and that is the Vanguard Heralder 38 Messenger-style camera bag.
This is the Vanguard Heralder 38, a good sized bag without being too big and cumbersome. Like many of you, we like to travel with carry-ons only, and anything bigger can be problematic.
If it’s bigger you may end up having to check it. Something you definitely don’t want. Or, if you do get on the plane, you might find that getting a bigger in the overhead a real trial.
And, then the flight attendant says we’ll have to check it. What a drag! So this is really quite a good size with a lot of storage and features. Let’s take a look at why I think this is the best messenger camera bag for travelers.
Let’s start with the exterior of the bag, and then work our way inside. First, the strap. The shoulder pad is extremely thick and well padded making it very comfortable. The strap is also quite long and substantial and his hooked to two hefty D rings.
There is also a grab handle set off center for the quick lift. On top you you’ll notice a handy feature. The flap is zippered for easy access to all of you gear, and it has an added little magnetic tab that secures the zipper for being easily pulled by an unwanted guest.
Turning to the back of the bag, you’ll find a zippered pouch that contains a rain fly to cover your bag when the weather turns nasty. There’s also an additional strap that can be attached to a corner of the bag and then run to the main strap for extra stability, and security.
Also,a loop that makes it easy to drop the bag onto your rollaboard’s handle has been added. There’s even a little velcro in the middle that is supposed to make the bag even more stable.
Looking at the ends of the bag, there is an elastic section suitable to hold miscellaneous doodads, and on the other there are two loops from which you can attach various accessory kit.
Finally, on the front is the clasp to secure the top flap, but, there is a hidden feature at the bottom of the front. Unfasten the velcro and inside the hidden pocket is a tripod sling! Really quite amazing. Oh, and the bottom is rubberized too, so that if you set it on wet ground, your gear will remain high and dry.
Just a portion of the gear that fits in this bag.
Now, let’s open up the bag and look at what’s featured in the interior. As you would hope there is a lot of very well padded space here that you can configure how you see fit. There’s enough room in here for 1-2 DSLRs, 5-6 Lenses (up to a 300 f/4). There’s also a padded,15″ Laptop Compartment. And, don’t forget various pieces of kit will fit in too. Up front you’ll notice little pockets for a couple of pens and a lens pen, along with a semi-clear pouch for sundry items.
And, last, but not least, on the inside of the flap are two pouches with two pockets each, perfect for storing your memory cards.
To wrap it up this all up the closure is more than the simple clasp at the front. Under the flap is a heavy duty zipper that adds an added level of security from prying fingers.
Our conclusion? This bag is a definite keeper. It’s really well constructed and comes at a very reasonable price. You can find it on Amazon currently for $149.95 U.S. There’s a link in the description below so you can look it over yourself.
