Days Inn Charleston SC
A chain hotel saves you money?
Recently, we spent a wonderful four days in the beautiful southern city of Charleston, South Carolina. The city that is the center of the antebellum south had been on our radar for quite some time, and we were excited to spend some time there.
We spent some time, as we usually do planning our trip. The things that we wanted to see, the places we wanted to visit, and of course, where we were going to stay during our time in Charleston.
We decided to go at the end of April because this is the time of the year when the city is bursting with color as the flowers are coming into bloom. Another positive is that the heat has yet to envelope the area. Both were very powerful reasons for us to book our trip at this time.
The bad news? Everybody else books during this same period. Because, everybody wants to see the city in its full glory, and avoid the heat.
As you can imagine, this causes a shortage of hotel space. Rooms were very hard to come by.
As a rule, we avoid lower tier large hotel chains like Days Inn. Our preference is to stay at smaller, independent boutique style hotels. But, our pockets are only so deep, so we had to make a decision. And, we decided to go as inexpensively as we could. And, that was Days Inn Charleston SC.
I can hear your reaction already, “DAYS INN”, you must be off your rocker. And, to be honest, we kind of had to choke down our pride and bite the bullet. You’ll be relieved to find that… it wasn’t as bad as we feared.
We read the reviews. We looked at the photos. And, to be honest some of these were very….. unappetizing. But, we held our breath and booked it.
Here’s what we found.
Days Inn Charleston SC
We arrived late to find that as we found in our research, that the Charleston Days Inn is right where we wanted to be, in the heart of the city. Chalk one up for Days Inn! Location, location, location!
So we arrive, and the parking lot is packed. Obviously, we were not the only ones that were looking for a hotel value.
After we checked in, we made our way to our room. As the we inserted the key card, our eyes drooping with fatigue, we held our breath wondering what we would find.
And, in truth, it was…. meh. Importantly, the bed was comfortable. The air conditioner effective, though a bit loud. The rest of the room was just plain tired. Particularly the sinks and bath area.
But, we didn’t experience the horrors that some documented in their TripAdvisor reviews of Days Inn Charleston SC. Bottom line here is that we got a room that we were OK with that was in a super location.
I’ll be honest that it was really difficult to choke down the charge for four days that came to almost $1000! A lot of money, but way less than anything else in the area. I know! Hard to believe, but true.
