Tour the Town
As Puerto de la Cruz is a mixture of the old and the new, you can enjoy the modern conveniences while still getting the full experience of the centuries-old colonial town with its architecture, culture, and history. The town is originally a fisherman’s town. If you enjoy fishing as a hobby, you can talk to the locals about the traditional techniques. You’ll surely learn so much. You can also enjoy delicious seafood just by the harbor where there are food stalls that line the walls. The locals also cook appetizing Canarian specialties as well as huge paellas.
You can also choose to experience fine dining at Puerto de la Cruz as there are plenty of restaurants to try. There are also a good number of shopping options. The plazas are wonderful places to just sit around and rest after a day of touring and just watch the locals and the tourists go about with their day.
A great plaza to visit is the Plaza de Iglesias. It is where the main church of the town is situated, La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia. The church dates way back to the 17th Century. It has one of the most stunning church interiors in Tenerife.
Try the Local Food
After a long day of exploring Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, it’s time to explore its cuisine! The cuisine of Puerto de la Cruz is a combination of Spanish, African, and Latin American dishes. Even with these influences, the town still has its own distinct cuisine. Tapas, coming from its Spanish tradition, are very popular. Meat is the star of every meal. However, restaurants have to import meat from South America as it is difficult to get in the island because cattle rearing is rare.
For dessert, you should definitely try “Bienmesabe” which means “It tastes good to me.” It is a dish made from a mixture of rum, eggs, almond cream, and honey. You can also try Frangollas. It is a milk pudding that is corn-based. It has brandy, honey, and cinnamon. Another dessert to try is the Las Torrijas. It is sweet maize fritters with aniseed and honey. It may be a lot of calories to take in but give yourself and your diet a break and try out these mouth-watering desserts.

Enjoy the Waters
At Costa Martianez, you can enjoy both the culture and the waters. It is a sculpture and water park that was created by an artist called Manrique. It is found just on the seafront of Puerto de la Cruz. You can lounge by the pools after looking at the many sculptures and artworks. The ocean view is also something that you should experience while in Costa Martianez. This is the place where you can just take your time, relax, and enjoy the sun. If you’ve been touring the town for many days, this is the place to be at to just recharge and feel refreshed.

Admire the Local Flora at the Botanical Gardens
After you’re done meeting the local fauna, it’s time to get to know the exotic flora at the Botanical Gardens. Like the Loro Parque, it is also very near the town center. For those who have a special interest in plants, you’ll surely enjoy visiting the Botanical Gardens. It has 20,000 square meters of an 18th Century garden.
